Utah is a special place for immigrants and refugees. Settlers came to this state fleeing persecution and seeking safety and prosperity. I believe that we should always be a place where those seeking happiness, prosperity, and safety can come.
I do believe in honoring and sustaining the law, and those who use fraudulent identification in order to obtain employment illegally should face consequences for those actions. Also, employers who break the law by not doing proper due diligence in ensuring that they are not hiring individuals illegally should be held accountable.
I believe that consequences for breaking immigration laws should be compassionate and fair, particularly when it comes to considering the needs of families and children. The unnecessary separation of families because of issues surrounding legal residency should never be forced by the state.
